How to sell to CTOs at Fintech companies in Australia

CTOs in fintech companies in Australia are primarily measured on system uptime and security compliance. They respond to outreach that demonstrates a deep understanding of regulatory challenges and recent technology shifts in payments or banking software. Highlighting solutions that enhance security while streamlining operations can capture their attention.

Written and maintained by the SoloRiff team, who build outbound software and run outbound with it. The figures below are our own: we measured 570 fintech company domains over public DNS on 2026-09-03. Last updated 2026-09-03.

What actually hurts

  • system downtime complaints
  • increased security threats
  • regulatory compliance headaches
  • integration issues with legacy systems

The playbook

  1. 01

    Identify recent regulatory updates

Research recent changes in Australian fintech regulations, particularly those affecting payments and lending. Use resources like ASIC or APRA announcements to find updates. Mention these in your outreach to demonstrate awareness of their compliance challenges.

  2. 02

    Analyze tech stack vulnerabilities

Examine the tech stacks of targeted fintech companies using tools like BuiltWith or SimilarTech. Identify potential vulnerabilities or outdated technologies that could impact security. Tailor your messaging to address these specific weaknesses in your outreach.

  3. 03

    Monitor recent funding announcements

Track funding rounds for fintechs in Australia through platforms like Crunchbase or PitchBook. Target those that have recently secured funding, as they may be looking to invest in new technology solutions. Reference their growth plans in your communication.

  4. 04

Prepare for objections on budget constraints

Anticipate budget-related objections by researching their recent financial performance and funding status. Prepare case studies that demonstrate cost savings or ROI from similar fintech implementations. This will help in addressing concerns about budget limitations during discussions.

  5. 05

Set follow-up reminders based on their product launch cycles

Understand their product development cycles by analyzing their recent product launches or announcements. Schedule follow-ups around these timelines, as CTOs are likely to be more receptive to new solutions when they are actively seeking to enhance their offerings.

Can fintech companies even receive your mail?

We measured the DNS of 570 fintech companies, sampled evenly across company sizes, to see how many authenticate their own email. It matters in both directions: a domain that does not authenticate is a domain whose team is used to mail going missing — and if your own domain is in the gap, yours is the mail going missing.

Publishes a DMARC policy of quarantine or reject — the domain actually asks receivers to act on failures.

The gap is the finding: 34.3% of 1–10-person companies against 92.2% of the largest — 58 points apart. Small companies are where the unauthenticated domains are, and small companies are who most cold outreach is aimed at.

Where does your domain sit?

Same three lookups, run live against your domain. Nothing is stored and nothing is emailed to you.

How this was measured

Company domains were sampled within employee-count bands, then queried over public DNS for SPF (TXT at the apex), DMARC (TXT at _dmarc.) and MX. One domain per company, deduplicated. Anyone can reproduce any single row of this with dig.

DKIM is deliberately absent. A DKIM key lives under a selector that cannot be enumerated from outside the domain, so a company with flawless DKIM under a name we did not guess would be counted as having none. That would measure our guess list, not the industry.

Domains with no MX record are excluded rather than counted as failures — parked and redirect-only domains would otherwise drag every figure down and make the result an artefact of the sample.

Sampled within bands, so this describes the population of companies, not of employees: a 10-person company counts once, as does a 10,000-person one. Each band is at least 60 domains; bands below that are not published. Figures are percentages of the sample, not of the whole industry, and we publish no company names — only counts.

Questions

Why do CTOs in fintech overlook cold outreach?
CTOs often receive numerous outreach attempts that lack specificity or relevance to their current challenges. If the outreach does not directly address their immediate pain points, such as compliance or system vulnerabilities, it tends to be ignored.
How can I demonstrate value to a fintech CTO?
To effectively demonstrate value, tailor your messaging to highlight how your solution can solve specific challenges they face, such as improving system uptime or ensuring compliance with new regulations. Use industry-specific language and examples.
What timing works best for reaching out to fintech CTOs?
Reaching out shortly after a major regulatory announcement or funding round can be effective, as CTOs may be seeking solutions to address new challenges or opportunities. Understanding their product launch cycles can also help time your outreach.
What common objections do fintech CTOs have?
CTOs often express concerns about budget constraints, integration complexities with existing systems, and the potential disruption of implementing new solutions. Addressing these objections proactively in your outreach can improve engagement.
