How to sell to Heads of Marketing at E-commerce companies in Spain

Heads of Marketing in E-commerce companies in Spain are primarily measured on customer acquisition costs. They respond to outreach that demonstrates a clear understanding of their unique challenges, such as the need for effective digital campaigns that convert traffic into sales. Highlighting insights on optimizing online store performance can capture their attention.

What actually hurts

  • high customer acquisition costs
  • low conversion rates on campaigns
  • ineffective targeting of audiences
  • overwhelming competition in the market

The playbook

  1. 01

    Identify brands launching new products

Use platforms like Launchmetrics to find DTC brands in Spain that are launching new products. These companies are often looking for marketing solutions to support their campaigns. Filter for launches in the last 30 days to ensure relevance.

  2. 02

    Analyze social media engagement

Check the social media performance of your targeted brands using tools like Sprout Social. Identify brands with recent spikes in engagement, indicating they are actively promoting products. This can signal a readiness to invest in marketing solutions.

  3. 03

    Reach out with tailored insights

Craft an email that addresses the specific challenges of scaling digital campaigns in Spain. Mention recent trends in e-commerce, such as shifts to mobile shopping, and how your insights can help them adapt. Personalize your approach based on their latest product launch.

  4. 04

Follow up after key marketing events

If a prospect's brand recently participated in a major marketing event, follow up within a week. Reference the event and ask how their strategies are evolving. This shows you are engaged with their industry and can provide timely support.

  5. 05

    Suggest a strategy session

In your follow-up, propose a brief strategy session to discuss optimizing their customer acquisition costs. Offer specific ideas based on your research. This positions you as a partner rather than just a vendor.

Can e-commerce companies even receive your mail?

We measured the DNS of 578 e-commerce companies, sampled evenly across company sizes, to see how many authenticate their own email. It matters in both directions: a domain that does not authenticate is a domain whose team is used to mail going missing — and if your own domain is in the gap, yours is the mail going missing.

The gap is the finding: 19.6% of 1–10-person companies against 67.5% of the largest — 48 points apart. Small companies are where the unauthenticated domains are, and small companies are who most cold outreach is aimed at.

How this was measured

Company domains were sampled within employee-count bands, then queried over public DNS for SPF (TXT at the apex), DMARC (TXT at _dmarc.) and MX. One domain per company, deduplicated. Anyone can reproduce any single row of this with dig.

DKIM is deliberately absent. A DKIM key lives under a selector that cannot be enumerated from outside the domain, so a company with flawless DKIM under a name we did not guess would be counted as having none. That would measure our guess list, not the industry.

Domains with no MX record are excluded rather than counted as failures — parked and redirect-only domains would otherwise drag every figure down and make the result an artefact of the sample.

Sampled within bands, so this describes the population of companies, not of employees: a 10-person company counts once, as does a 10,000-person one. Each band is at least 60 domains; bands below that are not published. Figures are percentages of the sample, not of the whole industry, and we publish no company names — only counts.

Questions

Why do Heads of Marketing in e-commerce ignore outreach?
Heads of Marketing often receive numerous outreach attempts and may overlook them if they don't immediately relate to their current priorities. If your message doesn’t clearly address their specific pain points, such as high customer acquisition costs or recent product launches, it risks being ignored.
What marketing challenges do e-commerce CMOs face?
E-commerce CMOs frequently struggle with high customer acquisition costs and low conversion rates. They also face challenges in effectively targeting audiences amidst increasing competition. This pressure to deliver results can lead to reluctance in engaging with new vendors without proven success.
How can I make my outreach stand out?
To stand out, tailor your outreach by referencing specific challenges faced by e-commerce brands in Spain. Use data from recent trends, such as shifts in consumer behavior or successful case studies from similar brands, to demonstrate your understanding and relevance.
What timing is best for outreach to e-commerce marketing leaders?
The best timing for outreach is typically after significant industry events or product launches. During these times, marketing leaders are often evaluating their strategies and may be more open to new ideas. Following up shortly after these events can increase your chances of engagement.
