How to sell to Procurement leads at Marketplaces companies

Procurement leads at marketplaces are primarily measured on cost savings achieved through vendor negotiations. They respond to outreach that demonstrates a deep understanding of their specific vendor challenges, such as managing multiple supplier relationships and ensuring product quality across diverse offerings. Tailoring your message to highlight solutions that streamline procurement processes will capture their attention.

What actually hurts

  • vendor relationship management
  • supplier quality assurance
  • cost control challenges
  • compliance with industry regulations

The playbook

  1. 01

    Identify recent vendor disputes

Search for news articles or press releases about recent vendor disputes or quality issues in the marketplace sector. Use a tool like Google Alerts to track mentions of specific companies or products. This information will help you tailor your outreach to address their immediate concerns.

  2. 02

Target companies expanding their supplier base

Filter your prospect list for marketplaces that have recently announced plans to expand their supplier networks. Look for announcements in industry reports or LinkedIn updates. These companies are likely seeking solutions to manage increased supplier complexity.

  3. 03

Highlight compliance risks in your outreach

Craft your messaging to emphasize how your solution mitigates compliance risks associated with vendor management. Reference specific regulations or standards relevant to the marketplace industry that they must adhere to. This will resonate with their need to minimize legal exposure.

  4. 04

    Follow up after procurement conferences

Schedule follow-ups with leads who attended recent procurement or marketplace conferences. Mention specific sessions or topics discussed at the event in your outreach. This shows you are engaged with industry trends and relevant to their current discussions.

  5. 05

    Address common objections about cost

Prepare responses to common objections regarding the cost of your solution. Understand that procurement leads are focused on cost savings, so be ready to explain how your offering can lead to long-term savings. Use case studies or examples from similar marketplaces to reinforce your points.

Can marketplaces companies even receive your mail?

We measured the DNS of 179 marketplaces companies, sampled evenly across company sizes, to see how many authenticate their own email. It matters in both directions: a domain that does not authenticate is a domain whose team is used to mail going missing — and if your own domain is in the gap, yours is the mail going missing.

Where does your domain sit?

Same three lookups, run live against your domain. Nothing is stored and nothing is emailed to you.

How this was measured

Company domains were sampled within employee-count bands, then queried over public DNS for SPF (TXT at the apex), DMARC (TXT at _dmarc.) and MX. One domain per company, deduplicated. Anyone can reproduce any single row of this with dig.

DKIM is deliberately absent. A DKIM key lives under a selector that cannot be enumerated from outside the domain, so a company with flawless DKIM under a name we did not guess would be counted as having none. That would measure our guess list, not the industry.

Domains with no MX record are excluded rather than counted as failures — parked and redirect-only domains would otherwise drag every figure down and make the result an artefact of the sample.

Sampled within bands, so this describes the population of companies, not of employees: a 10-person company counts once, as does a 10,000-person one. Each band is at least 60 domains; bands below that are not published. Figures are percentages of the sample, not of the whole industry, and we publish no company names — only counts.

Questions

Why do procurement leads at marketplaces ignore cold outreach?
Procurement leads often receive numerous cold emails that fail to address their specific pain points, such as vendor quality issues or cost savings. If outreach does not demonstrate a clear understanding of their unique challenges, it is likely to be overlooked.
What are common objections from procurement leads?
Common objections include concerns about the upfront cost of solutions, skepticism about ROI, and the fear of disrupting existing vendor relationships. Addressing these objections with tailored messaging is crucial for engaging procurement leads effectively.
How important is compliance for procurement leads?
Compliance is a top priority for procurement leads in marketplaces, as they must navigate various regulations and standards. Non-compliance can lead to significant legal and financial repercussions, making it essential for them to partner with vendors who understand these requirements.
What triggers procurement leads to seek new solutions?
Procurement leads are often triggered to seek new solutions when they face persistent vendor issues, such as quality complaints or delivery delays. Additionally, organizational changes, like mergers or expansions, can prompt a reevaluation of procurement strategies and tools.
