How to sell to Heads of Sales at Developer tools companies in Sweden

Heads of Sales at developer tools companies in Sweden are primarily measured on achieving quarterly sales targets. They respond to outreach that highlights how your solution can directly improve their sales team's efficiency, such as reducing the sales cycle time by streamlining integrations with CI/CD tools. Understanding their specific challenges around sales enablement will resonate more than generic pitches.

What actually hurts

  • long sales cycles
  • inefficient sales processes
  • team misalignment on product features
  • low lead conversion rates

The playbook

  1. 01

    Identify recent funding rounds

Look for developer tools companies in Sweden that have recently secured funding, as they often seek to expand their sales capabilities. Use platforms like Crunchbase to filter for companies that received funding in the last six months, which indicates they might be looking to invest in new sales tools.

  2. 02

Target teams focusing on API platform enhancements

Focus on companies that are enhancing their API platforms, as this often leads to a need for better sales processes. Use LinkedIn to filter for job postings that mention API development or integration, indicating a potential willingness to invest in tools that can facilitate these enhancements.

  3. 03

Address pain points around sales cycle efficiency

Craft your outreach to specifically mention how your solution can reduce the sales cycle for technical products. Highlight case studies or examples of how similar companies improved their sales efficiency through better integration with CI/CD tools, which are critical in the developer tools space.

  4. 04

Anticipate objections related to budget constraints

Prepare to address budget concerns by emphasizing the ROI of your solution. When following up, reference the cost of delays in the sales process due to inefficient tools, and present your offering as a cost-saving measure that can lead to faster revenue generation.

  5. 05

    Follow up after product launches

Schedule follow-ups shortly after a company launches a new product or feature. This is often when sales teams are ramping up and may be more receptive to solutions that can help them capitalize on new offerings. Use news alerts to stay updated on these launches.

Can developer tools companies even receive your mail?

We measured the DNS of 587 developer tools companies, sampled evenly across company sizes, to see how many authenticate their own email. It matters in both directions: a domain that does not authenticate is a domain whose team is used to mail going missing — and if your own domain is in the gap, yours is the mail going missing.

The gap is the finding: 27.4% of 1–10-person companies against 94.9% of the largest — 68 points apart. Small companies are where the unauthenticated domains are, and small companies are who most cold outreach is aimed at.

How this was measured

Company domains were sampled within employee-count bands, then queried over public DNS for SPF (TXT at the apex), DMARC (TXT at _dmarc.) and MX. One domain per company, deduplicated. Anyone can reproduce any single row of this with dig.

DKIM is deliberately absent. A DKIM key lives under a selector that cannot be enumerated from outside the domain, so a company with flawless DKIM under a name we did not guess would be counted as having none. That would measure our guess list, not the industry.

Domains with no MX record are excluded rather than counted as failures — parked and redirect-only domains would otherwise drag every figure down and make the result an artefact of the sample.

Sampled within bands, so this describes the population of companies, not of employees: a 10-person company counts once, as does a 10,000-person one. Each band is at least 60 domains; bands below that are not published. Figures are percentages of the sample, not of the whole industry, and we publish no company names — only counts.

Questions

Why do Heads of Sales in developer tools ignore outreach about generic sales tools?
Heads of Sales in developer tools often receive numerous outreach messages. If these messages don't specifically address the unique challenges they face, such as increasing sales cycle speed or improving team alignment on technical features, they are likely to be ignored. Tailoring your message to their specific context is crucial.
What factors influence a Head of Sales' decision to adopt new tools?
A Head of Sales will consider factors like ROI, integration capabilities with existing tools, and the potential to enhance team productivity. They are particularly focused on how a new tool can directly impact their sales metrics, such as conversion rates and overall sales efficiency.
How can I effectively engage a Head of Sales during a sales call?
Engaging a Head of Sales effectively involves asking targeted questions about their current sales processes and pain points. Demonstrating a deep understanding of their industry and how your solution can address specific challenges will help build credibility and rapport during the call.
What common mistakes do sellers make when targeting Heads of Sales?
Common mistakes include sending overly generic messages and failing to address the specific needs of the sales team. Sellers often neglect to demonstrate an understanding of the technical aspects of the products being sold, which is critical in the developer tools space, leading to disengagement.
